Higher National Diploma in Development Studies
The program is designed to produce highly qualified people who have an in-depth knowledge, skills and the appropriate attitude to serve as change agent to facilitate grass root development in both public and private sector of the economy. The program is designed in such a way that it responds to the needs of the job market as a result our products are marketable. The program is unique in the sense that trainees are exposed to both theoretical and practical development and its related issues at both national and international level. As part of the training program trainees spend at least two months each year during which they are exposed to practical development and related issues and also practice some of the theories learnt in the four corners of classroom. The program focuses on development as a cross cutting issue with emphasis on a range of topics that sharpen the trainees’ critical awareness of the importance of development as distinct field of study. The program is designed in such a way that the trainees upon successful completion can easily find their way into the university and any other tertiary institution at both national and international. Due to the fact that the program responds to the needs of the job market, trainees upon successful completion can work in many agencies, department, institution within the private and public.
General Objective:
Generally the program is designed basically to provide the necessary human resource needed to facilitate the development process of the country both the private and public sector of the economy.
Specific Objectives: The program will specifically enhance:
Trainees’ professional knowledge about development as a cross cutting issue
Trainees’ awareness about the important of development as a distinct field of study
The trainees’ ability to serve as frontline extension workers charge with the responsibility of facilitating grass root development within the public and private sector of the economy
Capacity of those trainees who wish to pick up development as a career by laying down the foundation for continuity to university and other higher learning institutions at both national and international.
PROGRAM CONTENT:
The program has twelve courses each with a detail course outline which serves as a guide for both the trainers and trainees. Below is a list of the courses:

PROGRAM DELIVERY:
The whole program is delivered through the following methods:
a) Lectures
b) Class discussion
c) Group works & presentation
d) Site visits & study tour
e) Field practical
PROGRAM ASSESSMENT:
The whole program (the various courses) is assess through the following :
3.1. Examination—75%
3.2. Test and Assignments—20%
3.3. Class participation and attendance—5%
3.4. Field practical—100% (this is asses separately annually)
Admission Requirement:
The admission requirements of the programme are:
a. Five (5) credits including English Language in the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination(WASSCE)
b. Pass in the pre-selection examination
c. Pass in the pre- selection interview
This is a nine-month program which has ten core modules and five elective modules. The program is organized in such a way that participants are exposed to both theoretical and practical development issues at national and international level. Each of the modules has specific selected and relevant topics based on current development issues at both national and international level. Each module runs for two weeks during which participants have the opportunity to interact with a team of resource persons or facilitators. Participants are required to select all the ten core modules and two elective modules for them to be graduated.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
To produce the caliber of participants who by virtue of their moral as well as academic qualification will contribute meaningfully towards the development process of the country in particular and the Africa as a continent. The program aims to achieve the following specific objectives:
To expose participants to relevant and up to date development issues nationally and globally.
To build their capacity to be able to contribute meaningfully towards the development process of their various sectors.
To help those participants who are already in the field of development to improve on their profession and pave the way for others who wish to develop a carrier in the field of development.

As stated above in the respective modules, the whole program is assess as follows:

Dist.=95%–100%
A+=90%–95%
A=80—89%
B=70—79%
C=60—69%
D=50—59%

F=39%
